Iceland

In  October 2018 I booked a bus tour in Iceland. I arrived a few days early and stay a couple of days after and arranged day tours on those days to explore parts of Iceland the Bus Tour wasn’t covering.

Iceland was a surprise. I was expecting ice and snow but saw fields of hay, sheep, and fall colors similar to home. Iceland is beautiful and is unique in that it has extremes not seen all together in one place. There are thermal springs, glaciers, ice caves, lava tunnels, lava fields, farms, northern lights, waterfalls and breath taking rainbows all within a couple of hours of each other.

October is the rainy season and rain it did. The 10 days I was there, it was mostly overcast, windy, one minute rain the next clear. I only saw the sun a couple of days and wore rain gear everyday.  It was a challenge to keep myself and my gear dry. The air was saturated with moisture which made for fuzzy pictures but provided for spectacular rainbows when the sun tried to peak through the clouds.

I became an expert at taking photos from a moving bus. The advantages of a bus tour is that I got to see a lot of different locations in Iceland, the disadvantage was that there was very little time spent at each location so no time for exploring or setting up shots. I would love to go back and spend more time at various locations to capture the beauty of the place at my own pace.
